Six policemen were killed and 17 others were wounded as they battled the communist New People’s Army rebels in the remote village of Baggao,Cagayan last February 16, 2016. The Public Safety Battalion, led by PSupt Juan R Aggasid, had gone to Barangay Sta. Margarita in Baggao to check reports on the torching of government equipment by communist rebels when three kilometers before reaching the site, some policemen were hit by explosives fired from the rebels’ grenade launchers.
The following PSMBFI members were kiled: PO1 Ryan G Annang, PO1 Derel P Sunico, PO1 Arjay A Bautista, PO1 Rogelio C Alfonso, PO1 Julius N Soriano, PO1 Jaypee P Aspiros. Those PSMBFI members injured were: PSInsp Clan P Cabansi, PO3 Jeremy F Gacias, PO2 Jaypol C Melad, PO1 Olier A Cabildo, PO2 Elvis C Madali, PO1 Edmar T Mallillin, PO1 Jobert N Ducusin, PO1 John Fritz G Balunsat, PO1 Richmon E Diesto, PO1 Kelvin E Taguibao, PO1 Jae Mark S Camarauan, PO1 Mark Lester T Layugan, PO1 Estanislao S Calayan, and PO1 Mateo A Ballad. Their insurance benefits were immediately processed by PSMBFI.
On February 18, 2016, the Association extended the WIA benefit to those wounded in police operations and the cash advance of insurance benefit to the beneficiaries of members killed in police operations, in addition to the KIA benefit.
